Aveng Engineering History

Aveng Engineering began as LTA Process Engineering in 1982. The formation of the company allowed LTA Construction to consolidate its considerable process engineering and project management capabilities. Over six years, the rationalisation eventually incorporated LTA Birtley Engineering, Jacobs LTA Engineering and Spencer Melksham.

With the incorporation of Simon Carves (Africa) Limited the company began to broaden its field of expertise. More specifically, it could offer competencies with regards to specialised process technology within the chemical, mineral processing and petrochemical industries.

The Operations and Maintenance division was formed in 1991 and was soon servicing gold, coal, diamonds, platinum group metals, sulphuric acid and heavy minerals. From this base, capacity grew to the point where contract operations on water, power and mineral processing plants could be accommodated. Operations and Maintenance works closely on all Aveng Engineering projects during the design phase so as to ensure consistency, quality and operability.

In the years that followed, the company was subject to several mergers and takeovers. Progressive changes in corporate identity saw the company name change to Grinaker-LTA Process Engineering, Aveng E+PC Engineering & Projects Company, and finally Aveng Engineering.

New business undertakings have included the addition of Aveng Water, which was formed after the acquisition of Keyplan in 2008. The division now offers expertise in mine and process water treatment as well as seawater desalination. Under the Power Division, solar and wind renewable energy facilities are planned for the near future.

The new entity has further strengthened its long-established core business repertoire, and its consistent growth is a reflection of client confidence. Aveng Engineering has executed many contracts on engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) and lump sum turnkey (LSTK) basis across the spectrum of process industries – from acid plants to fertilisers, and from minerals to petrochemicals.

Aveng Engineering’s mission is to create wealth for its clients, shareholders, employees and the communities in which it operates through new opportunities and innovative engineering. It pursues this mission through dedication to engineering and project execution excellence in partnership with its clients.
